Tips & Tricks - Audio

Using the 'plate' type PZM microphones, but footsteps, tapping fingers and other talent induced noises make you think twice about using them again. Try placing the mics on computer mouse pads (the ones with rubber backs and cloth tops). Trim to the exact size of the mic.

Taping a stereo program with two mono mocrophones? Excellent stereo separation can be obtained by placing the two mics at 90 degrees to each other so that the heads of the mics cross. Just remember that the mic on the right is picking up the audio from the left and vice-versa.
Wireless microphones provide flexibility that allows the talent to move anywhere. Unfortunately, there are times the camera operator may not be able to hear and react to what the talent has said. We solve the problem by tuning a small portable scanner radio (the type that is used to monitor polica and fire communications) to the microphone's frequency. The scanner fits on your belt and combines with an earphonem allows the picture to stay with the narration.
