Tips & Tricks -Wedding

You've probably heard the saying that duct tape can fix just about anything (or in our case 'gaffers' tape)? Well, here is a few that you probably haven't thought of ...

Tape up a ripped hem on a bride's gown or groom's pants.
Attach a lav mic to the inside of a jacket or tux.
Put a lav's wire out of camera view during an interview, by taping it to the back of the person, without having to fish the wire under clothing.
White and black gaffers tape comes in handy, especially for weddings!

Pack yourself a "Wedding Emergency Kit", not for you, but for the wedding party. Include things like:

sewing kit (for emergency repairs)

hard candy (reduces nervousness and helps dry-mouth) NO GUM!

Corsage/boutonnière pins

shoe polish / polishing rag

unbreakable mirror (for touch-ups)

tissues (small individual packs)

cotton balls

bobby pins

safety pins

These items, if needed, will make you look like a hero
Faced with an almost impossible backlight problem? Bride and groom seated at the headtable with a window directly behind them ... a typical country club setting? Or the open church door while the bride makes her decent down the aisle? Instead of trying to shoot it head on, try increasing the angle from either side or above, to minimize the offending source of light taking over the background. Also, tighten up the shot. Make a compromise between quantity of image and quality of image. Eliminating the tops of heads will make a better video clip than one that is blown out from the light behind the subjects.
